What are the Applications and Types of Torque Sensor?






Torque is the twisting and turning forces generated in machinery or equipment and Torque Sensor is the device used to measure these forces. Torque sensors can be very compacted in size and small but still stay very strong and powerful and sometimes imperative within the application they are working. Sometimes, they have internal strain gauges which are compact in size, receptive sensors to determine force and strain.

Therefore, torque sensors are the transducers that translate mechanical inputs of torsion into electrical output signals. The torque transducer can be either static or dynamic and can measure turning forces in both clockwise and anti-clockwise directions. Hence, there are two dissimilar types of torque sensors, which are used to observe different types of forces. The rotary or angular forces are measured with Dynamic Torque Sensors while the forces through a distance are measured with Static Torque Sensors.

Dynamic Torques Sensors
Dynamic Torque Sensors are of two types; rotary torque sensors and non-contact torque sensors. Rotary Torques Sensors are used commonly for applications in rotating shafts. While non-contact torque sensors make use of magnetic or inductive technology to offer precise measurements at high rotational speeds, they provide elongated maintenance-free workings as they do not apply wearing parts like slip rings.
There are various applications for the use of a Dynamic Torque sensor:

Static Torque Sensors
Static torque sensors are perfectly suitable for industrial applications and testing of fatigue. They present long-lasting reliability as they have rigid parts. The application of static torque sensors is used where angular motion is restricted, and in-line torque measurements are necessary.
